General Meeting

AGENDA ITEMS
1. Approve minutes from March, 2008 Chapter meeting :
Minutes approved by membership.
2 . Introduction of Wendy Rohner, Assistant Zone IV Director
Here to perform installation of new officers.
3. Voting Process
Jill received emails about actual vote counts. Jill described that when there is such a large discrepancy between the winner/loser of the contest that it is not appropriate to send the actual vote count to all members.
Comments on procedure, all agreed there should be steps created to improve the voting process when a site by site vote will be held in the future. Also, a suggestion was made regarding information being sent out to constituents about candidates prior to the election.
4 . Installation of officers incumbent and new : OSEA oath recited as Jill Simmons, President, Curt Smith, Vice President and Diane Binnings, Secretary sworn in. Wendy read duties of officers.
5. Delegates to Conference: Conference will be held June 26, 27 and 28 at Portland Holiday Inn, Airport, Convention Center . Nominations were taken from the floor for 9 delegates to go to conference ( Eugene Chapter is entitled to 10 delegates).
- Eleven nominations taken and listed on board.
- Ballots distributed.
- Votes cast, gathered, and tallied.
- Delegates are: Diane Binnings, June Blackwell, Loren Davis, Terry McDonald, Kevin Sayer, Theresa Shelby, Kathie Tagwerker, Kathy Wiebke, LeeAnne Morris, and Curt Smith (automatic delegate as Chapter Vice President).
- Delegates will share two to a room, have meals and costs covered.
- Conference begins Thursday evening (26 th ) at 6:00 p.m. and most business will be conducted Friday, all day Saturday with banquet in evening.
6. AFT BENEFIT PACKET
Jill: Packets will be personally distributed by members with release time and additional volunteers by last week of April.
Will make personal contact with each classified member on site.
Huge task: building reps will be instrumental in getting the deed done with emphasis on getting the goldenrod card filled out and sent in by each member.
AFT benefits are many and include limited supplemental medical insurance plans, a million dollar liability coverage for any AFT member, a $12,000 Life Insurance policy free for one year from date of affiliation ( 2/12/2008 ) and more.
MUST activate your membership with AFT, you can do this by going to the OSEA website: www.osea.org (scroll down to AFT benefits; enter # from card you received in mail).
Must fill out and send in goldenrod card for life insurance benefit to go into effect.
7. DISTRICT HEALTH INSURANCE
We will be shifting insurance in September.
Received an email from Patrick Munyon, the target date is May 15 th for information on premium costs from the new providers. Patrick is hoping to share this information at the June 5 meeting.
8. MAY 1, 2008 ZONE MEETING
Meeting will be held Thursday, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Education Center , in the Auditorium.
AFT Benefit specialist will be there to answer questions.
9 . MEMBER ORGANIZING SUMMER INSTITUTE
July 25, 26 & 27, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Salem .
Union specific training on member organizing skills.
- Two individuals are interested in possible attendance; names will be forwarded to the E-Board of Chapter 1. Diane Binnings, and Rena Robbins.
