Eugene Chapter #1
General Meeting

January 19, 2006

President Jill Simmons called the meeting to order at 4:35 p.m.  This months meeting was held in the library at Kennedy Middle School.

The flag was saluted.

Guests - Jill Simmons introduced Merlene Martin, our State President who is also the president of the Cottage Grove chapter and Patrick Munyon, our Classified Benefits Coordinator.

Minutes - The November minutes were read by Secretary Linda Warner.  Minutes will stand as read.

Treasurer's Report - Judy Haack gave the treasurer's report.  As of December 31st, $10,682.05 is in the General Fund and the President's Release has $13,102.57.  The report will stand as read.

Update on Joint Benefits Committee - Patrick Munyon gave an update on the Wellness Committee.  Three classes will be offered:  Coping with stress, Smoking Cessation and Nutrition.  Information is in the newsletter and by a recently sent e-mail.   They will be offered by Cascade Solutions.  JBC meets tomorrow and will be discussing financial issues of the Wellness Clinic.  A 3rd review will be held at the February meeting.  PeaceHealth will be there to give us a look at the future.  Benefit renewals letters have been sent out from AON, our consulting firm.  By March we should know more about our 2006-2007 costs from ODS.  Merlene Martin asked Patrick what we pay Manley for our Flexible Spending.  Patrick responded.

Update on Food Services Negotiations - Negotiations will begin soon.  Jill Simmons is in the process of putting together a team.  Two issues Jill will be negotiating for food services are:  Same negotiating schedule as other classified employees and same cost of living increases as other classified.  Pete Mooers asked if food service is in the black.  Jill explained.  Amber Beers-Hisey asked how many food services employees.  Jill told us there were approximately 100 employees.  Jill feels that the food service program is moving in the right direction regarding its financial outlook.

Officer Elections - Nominations are now open.  All four offices are up for re-election.  Those interested are to contact Pete Mooers.  Nominations will be accepted at the March meeting.  In April, officers will be elected.  There has been no decision on how to conduct the voting.

Honors - Kathy Wiebke recently accepted the lead custodian position at Sheldon High School.  Jill Simmons honored Kathy Wiebke and Kathi Tagwerker for their work as Member Organizers and signing 53 new members to our chapter.  Jill presented them with a framing of a recent article in the OSEA journal.  Thanks for all your hard work.
