Chapter 44, Parkrose School District # 3

The meeting was called to order by Pres. John Kearns on Sept. 19, 2005 at 4:29 pm at Parkrose High School.
Introductions: New officers, John Kearns, Pres., Mike Grady,Vice Pres., Debi McHale, Sec. and Al Lanxon,
Treas. Out-going Pres. Lana Stevens and Vice Pres. Rebecca Smillie were there to wish us well.
(I would personally like to thank them for all their hard work, and their committment to our district.
This job takes alot of their free time which is valuable to them and their family.)
New Business/Old Business: It was suggested that we get a P.O. for Chapter #44 at the Post Office on
the corner of 122nd and Shaver. We receive confidential papers and letters and some OSEA members would
feel more comfortable sending them to us directly. A motion was made and seconded to check with the Post
Office to find out about availability. The cost would be approximately $50 per year. John Kearns and
Al Lanxon will have keys so they can make regular pick-ups. Negotiations,Contract: We will be sending out
a survey to all classified OSEA members to find out what concerns they may have pretaining to the
up-coming negotiations. These will be distributed by your school Rep. We would like you to fill them out.
Please don't sign them. We will also provide a box or envelope for collection. We will take your concerns
and ideas to the negotiating team. Information from Kim Bonner: We will schedule training for OSEA members
on the negotiating team. We would like representatives from each classification of the classifieds. So
far we have 10 volunteers. If you would like to represent your group please let us know. We need all
interested members to help with this undertaking. We hope to have a fair and friendly contract negotiation.
We have had many "New Hires" this year. We would like to have them become OSEA members. If you are the
OSEA Rep. in your building you might pass along the information to get them signed up. OEA has been
searching for new members and are checking to see if we would like to join their union. Please check your
pay check. If it seems too large or too small check with payroll before cashing. It is easier to pay it
back now instead of later. Health & Welfare Premiums have dropped. You should notice a change on your
paycheck. There were questions and concerns about the new "School Bus Endorsement". Kim is checking to
see if Transportation people can get re-imbursed for the "S" fee and will let us know what she has found
out at our next meeting. Committee's Information: A big "Thank you" goes to Michelle Butler for
volunteering for the Fringe Benefits Committee. Let her know we appreciate her and all that she does for
our district. Family Medical Leave Act- For your protection please check your start and ending dates.
Treasurer's Report: $1970.78 in Savings & $159.38 in Checking Rose Report: Members are actively working
on Chapter Retirements. They would like to help on the local level along with the state level. Good to
the Order: A special "YOU ROCK!" goes to the Transportation Department. Can you believe we had over
20 OSEA members at this meeting? Planning meeting is October 10th, at 4:30 pm at Prescott Elementary.
The next Chapter meeting will be on October 19th at the High School. Please come and join us! The meeting
was adjourned at 5:23 pm
