It is with sadness and heavy heart that I inform you that John Brown passed away last night. John was in the hospital in Salem with his family at his bedside. John had been experiencing a number of medical issues these past few months that caused him to go back into the hospital this last week. John has left a legacy in his stead having built OSEA from the ground up. John served as a member of OSEA, State President, Field Representative and Executive Director. He will be missed both professionally and personally especially his regular visits to the Salem Office when he would also bring his lovely wife Norma with him. I know I’m rambling and OSEA will properly honor John within the Journal, E-News and Views and our Web Page; it’s going to hard for a lot of us who had the opportunity to get to know John over the years.
Please keep Norma Brown, Kathy and Al Melzer and their family in your thoughts and prayers. Kathy has let us know that there will be a memorial service for John this Friday, November 20, 2009 at the First Christian Church in Salem. The service will begin at 2:00 pm and the address is 685 Marion St NE, Salem Oregon. In John’s honor, we will be closing the Salem Office at 1:00 pm on Friday. Staff is invited and encouraged to attend the service for John and to show support the Brown and Melzer family.
Condolence cards and flowers can be sent to both homes and donations can be made to the First Christian Church in John Brown’s name.
