Committee
Task Outline
A primary purpose of
the Communications Committee is to develop, implement and maintain
effective lines of communication for your Chapter. Another
purpose of the committee would be to (1) establish a communications
database for the school district and the local communities and (2)
establish contact and identify liaisons for all media sources in
the local communities.
The Communications
Committee can begin to craft an action plan for the following:
1. Regular Publication
of the chapter newsletter
2. Maintain the chapter
web page
3. Develop chapter informational
flyers and talking head pieces when requested and required
4. Establish and announce
to the membership a communications protocol for:
- Information rumor
control
- Assessment and review
of all chapter publications and flyers for accuracy.
- The Communications
Committee serves as the chapter's final approval authority for
release of chapter communications
5. Establish an internal
chapter communications network that includes:
- A chapter wide phone
tree (work in concert with the BER Committee)
- Building Representatives
or a Chapter Activist at all district building sites (work in
concert with the BER committee)
6. Establish a District
communications network that includes:
- Certified and other
union
- PresidentsSchool Board
- Parent Committees
- Site Council (s)
- District Administration
(all levels)
- Student Clubs and
Organizations
- E-mail channels
- District Administration,
School Board, Certified, Student publications and Web Sites
5. Establish an External
communications network that includes (Working in concert with the
Community Outreach Committee):
(a) All community media
sources including:
- Newspapers
- Nickel Ads
- Private and Public
Organizations including fraternal groups like the Elks Lodge,
etc.
- Businesses
- TV
- Radio
- Festival and Events
(chamber of commerce)
6. Your committee should
set a calendar that outlines your action steps for completing items
1 to 5.
7. The Communications
Committee may be required to complete PRIORITY informational flyers
or other communications tasks prior to completion of steps 1 to
5.
PRIORITY action by the
committee will be driven by the district's movement regarding contract
negotiations, district information releases, preparation for board,
districts, community forums or other issues. It will be important
for the committee to establish the networks as soon as possible.
Much of the required information is available in phone directories,
chamber of commerce and district directories.
This task outline serves as an example. Your committee should feel
free to revise the contents and structure of this outline.
