Community Outreach Committee
Task Outline
A primary purpose of
the Community Outreach Committee is to (1)
create a community database of private and public organizations,
civic leaders, business owners and the media. Another
purpose of the committee would be to (2) establish contact with
representatives of key organizations, civic leaders and business
owners.
Once the committee has
established the database and has identified who the contact
person is for organizations, businesses, media and civic leaders
you can begin to craft your plan for the following:
1. Identify the chapter
issues.
2. Craft a message that
will inform, educate and move the organization, business, media
or civic leader to action. Remember that your message could
be a little different for a church as opposed to a business or media.
While your message may vary, it should maintain a primary focus.
(Example: contracting out). Decide how you want to present your
message. (Letter with handout, flyer or fact sheet)
3. Your committee can
determine who would be best to make first contact with
the organization, business, media or civic leader.
4. Your committee should
set a calendar that outlines the date, time and place for
first contact with the organization, business, media or civic leader.
Attending community functions as well as inviting guests to
chapter meetings could serve as locations for first contacts.
5. Schedule a follow-up
with the contact to assure your message was received, and be
available to respond to any questions.
6. Include your community's
schedule of events, festivals and other public opportunities to
get out the Chapter message.
Revise or add to
these steps as required for your campaign.
