Listed below are tasks that each chapter must do prior to attending the OSEA Conference at the Salem Conference Center, 200 Commercial St., SE, Salem, Oregon on June 24-26, 2010.
1. TOP PRIORITY - Make your hotel reservations NOW!!! We have three hotels where members may stay. The headquarters hotel will be the Phoenix Grand, 201 Liberty Street SE, Salem (503-540-7800). The other two hotels are the Phoenix Inns South and North. Phoenix Inn South (3½ miles south) is located at 4370 Commercial Street SE, Salem (800-445-4498), and Phoenix Inn North (6 miles northeast) is located at 1590 Weston Court NE, Salem, (888-239-9593). Contact the hotels indicating you are with the Oregon School Employees Association and make your reservations for June. The cost for the Phoenix Grand starts at $99 per night plus tax. (This cost includes up to two people per room.) The cost for the Phoenix North or South is $74 per night plus tax. (This cost includes up to four people per room.) You may also make your reservations on-line through the OSEA website (www.osea.org). Click the Conference shortcut and click register on-line. Phoenix Grand: The OSEA website will link you to the Phoenix Grand website; put “OSEA1” in the attendee code. This will then take you to the registration area and show the different prices based on the type of room you order. .
2. Resolutions - Send in your resolutions by February 1. These should be sent to the OSEA Resolutions/Constitution Committee, 4735 Liberty Rd S, Salem OR 97302.
3. Employee of the Year - Who is the employee of the year in your chapter? Deadline for submission is March 15, 2010.
4. Elect Conference Delegates - Hold chapter meetings during the months of March, April, or May and elect Conference delegates.
5. Minutes - When you elect your Conference delegates, send a copy of the meeting minutes to the OSEA Conference/Credentials Committee, 4735 Liberty Rd S, Salem OR 97302.
6. Register Delegates - Send registration forms for each chapter delegate to OSEA, 4735 Liberty Rd S, Salem OR 97302. Make sure the information is accurate on each form. (You will receive these registration forms in the spring).
7. Auction Items - Puchase an auction item for the Government Relations Auction. Every chapter should bring something either purchased or created by someone in the chapter. These items are auctioned off in a silent auction on Saturday. All proceeds are given to OSEA's VOICE Political Action Fund. If you have questions, please contact Ed Edwards.
8. Door Prizes - Bring a door prize for each of your delegates for the Conference. These items are drawn prior to the beginning of each session during Conference. It is always fun to win a prize.
9. Come to Conference - Come and debate on the resolutions, vote for your OSEA State Board, and have fun. This is a time to do the business of OSEA and to work and play with other OSEA members from around the state.
