Now that school is in full swing, and you’ve seen some new faces on staff, have you taken the time to introduce yourself as a member of OSEA? It’s a great thing to do, which gives you a topic of conversation and provides a friendly and supportive atmosphere! Ask if they are familiar with OSEA. If they aren’t, how would you explain our union? Do you know the true value of OSEA membership? Just what does OSEA do for members?
Collective bargaining, contract maintenance, salary and benefits are always of prime importance to employees. Working conditions, job duties, leaves of absence and vacation time all affect the quality of each employee’s work experience.
If not a union member, an employee has no vote on contract ratification or chapter leadership, which means no voice in union operations! Without the ability to join a union, employees have far less ability to secure and maintain all of the above.
OSEA offers scholarships and mini-grants for members wishing to continue their own education, scholarships for graduating seniors with OSEA family ties and a variety of training and experiential opportunities throughout the year. Money-saving discounts for services, sporting events, travel, entertainment and low-cost life insurance exist through membership in OSEA. PERS workshops are offered to members nearing retirement.
Legislatively, OSEA works on educational issues that are important to our members and their families.
You will always find OSEA members willing to assist fellow employees or sister chapters needing support.
You don’t have to be a chapter leader to share the value of OSEA membership. Share the good news with your new coworkers and invite them to join you as a member of “OSEA, A Member’s Union” that cares about and takes care of each member!
