Kathy Melzer Mini-Grants

Recipients of the Kathy Melzer Mini-Grant will use the money for professional development such as inservice training, workshops or seminars. The grants, which must be used during the 2019 calendar year, may be used for tuition and required materials. Three members from each zone will receive grants of approximately $400.

Recipients will be asked to fill out a written evaluation of the training for which they received the money. Following are the grant regulations:

  • Funds are to be used for attendance at an accredited school or college, or for a professional development seminar or workshop;
  • Funds are to be used within one year;
  • Grants may be used as reimbursement after a conference or as a prepayment to the conference or seminar;
  • Recipients will be given an evaluation form and will need to include a review of the course, with a recommendation to others who may want to attend;
  • Funds are to be used for course fees and required materials. Travel, meals, substitute time or supplemental materials will not be eligible for payment.

Grant recipients will be chosen by lottery after their membership is verified. This differs from the OSEA scholarship selection process, as grants are easier to apply for. Scholarships, which award larger amounts of money, require forms, references and essays. To apply for a grant, simply fill out the form below and drop it in the mail.

Members may enter once a year, and entries for the next lottery must be postmarked by November 5, 2018. For more information, call Brad Larsen at OSEA, 800-252-6732, or email brad@osea.org.
