OSEA is proud to sponsor the Guy Davis and Past Presidents’ scholarships for children, grandchildren and other qualifying relatives of OSEA and ROSE members as they pursue their education beyond high school. Both scholarships are awarded using the same application and criteria.
Seven Guy Davis Scholarships of $1,250 is awarded to one student in each of OSEA’s seven zones. These scholarships are in honor of OSEA’s first president, Guy Davis, who was one of the founders of OSEA. He was also the editor of OSEA’s newsletter and very involved in training programs for custodians across Oregon. The first Guy Davis Scholarship, for $300, was given in 1978.
The Past Presidents’ Scholarship of $1,500, is given to one student statewide.
Application instructions:
Scholarship recipients must meet the following requirements:
- Sponsored by a parent (including stepparent) or legal guardian, grandparent, sibling, aunt or uncle who is a member in good standing of OSEA or ROSE
- Minimum high school cumulative GPA of 3.0, including all subjects
- Attach the following to your application:
- Typed, double-spaced essay with a limit of 300 words on “How has the union affected your OSEA sponsor?” Please avoid using your sponsor’s name, chapter and worksite in your essay.
- Resume listing your accomplishments and extracurricular activities
- Letter of recommendation from an academic or community advisor
- Unofficial high school transcript
Your application, including the materials listed above, must be received by the OSEA State Office (postmarked) by March 1 for scholarships for the following year. Apply below or download the application form as a PDF.
Scholarships recipients will be notified in May. Scholarship funds must be used by May 1 of the following year.
