OSEA is proud to present the John Brown Scholarship of $1,000 to one undergraduate student each year. This scholarship is designed to support deserving children, grandchildren and other qualifying relatives of OSEA and ROSE members as they pursue their studies in higher education.
Application instructions:
Scholarship recipients must meet the following requirements:
- Sponsored by a parent (including stepparent) or legal guardian, grandparent, sibling, aunt or uncle who is a member in good standing of OSEA or ROSE
- Expect to be a junior or senior at an accredited college or university the following year
- Minimum college cumulative GPA of 2.8, including all subjects taken through the fall semester of your most recent year of school
- Attach the following to your application:
- Letter of recommendation from a college advisor or class instructor
- Typed, double-spaced essay of 400-700 words reflecting on your prior year of college and answering the following questions: “How will your chosen profession be affected by organized labor?” and “How will organized labor benefit your organization?” Please avoid using your sponsor’s name, chapter and worksite in your essay.

Your application, including the materials listed above, must be received by the OSEA State Office (or postmarked) by Jan. 15 for scholarships for the following year. Apply below or download the application form as a PDF.
Scholarship recipients will be notified in February. Funds must be used by May 1 of the following year.
