President Wofford Invited to the White House

President Wofford wouldn’t miss a visit from the AFT Votes bus for anything, except an invitation to the White House! Wofford was invited to First Lady Jill Biden’s Back to School Night, along with educators from across the country and their families and special guests.

Dr. Biden and Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona kicked off the party by thanking educators for their dedication through the COVID pandemic and following years. Guests stayed for fun and games on the White House lawn to celebrate the start of another school year.

Wofford, who attended the event in her role as Co-Chair of the AFT’s Paraprofessionals and School-Related Personnel Council, said the event was a powerful reminder of the progress educators have made in recent years – especially classified.

“The pandemic may be history, but we’re not going to forget the historic victories we won for classified. We are shining a light on the irreplaceable contributions we make to schools and students,” she said. “OSEA and AFT continue to champion education workers at the local and national levels.”
