Ways and Means embarks on listening tour

The Joint Committee on Ways and Means proposed K-12 budget came as a disappointment to educators, education advocates and unions when it was unveiled last Thursday. The co-chairs’ proposal not only left out any additional investment in Oregon schools, it actually called for cuts.

At a time when Oregon’s economy is booming, it doesn’t make sense to be talking about cuts — we should be fully funding education instead.

The good news is OSEA members have an opportunity to tell the Joint Committee on Ways and Means exactly how disappointed they are in the budget proposal. The committee will be making the following stops on a statewide community listening tour:

Pendleton

  • When: 5-7:30 p.m., Friday, March 15
  • Where: Blue Mountain Community College, Pioneer Hall, Bob Clapp Theatre, 2411 NW Carden Ave.

Redmond

  • When: 2-4 p.m., Saturday, March 16
  • Where: Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center, Three Sisters Conference and Convention Center (South Sister), 3800 SW Airport Way

Portland

  • When: 5:30-7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 21
  • Where: Portland Community College – Cascade, MAHB 104 Auditorium, 5514 N. Albina Ave.
