OSEA Member Honored by Oregon Association of School Libraries

Recognition from your peers is an awesome feeling! OSEA member Gigi Michaels of Medford Chapter 15  was named 2022 Classified Staff of the Year by the Oregon Association of School Libraries (OASL) at their October 15, 2022, conference in Bend. Michaels was honored for her work in the library at Griffin Creek Elementary.

“It was such an honor to be recognized by my peers in the OASL for doing something with children that I really care about,” said Michaels, who has worked for the Medford School District for 11 years. “I really appreciate all the support from coworkers and others that helped me get to this point.”

“Gigi is very dedicated to helping students in the library with learning and connecting with books. She’s just amazing,” said Anthony Ameral, president of Medford Chapter 15.

“Gigi’s presentation at the OASL conference was nothing short of inspirational,” said OSEA Vice President Teri Jones, a library assistant in Coos Bay who also attended the OASL conference. “She’s involving all ages and the community in her projects. I can’t wait to try out some of her ideas. Congratulations to Gigi for being a fantastic library hero!”
